Upon becoming a university, SIT's most important goal was to establish ourselves as a reputable and respected higher education institution. This involved not only gaining accreditation and recognition from relevant authorities, but also attracting high-quality students and faculty, developing a strong academic curriculum, and building a positive reputation in the academic community.
In this section, we look at the transformation of SIT from the perspective of our students. We feature a group of Alumni to understand how they were imprinted with the SIT DNA and what it means to be a SITizen. Through them we discover what school was like, and how their training and IWSP experiences shaped their professional capabilities and allowed them to contribute to their respective fields. They hung on tight to their dreams … and continue to do so as they conquer their challenges and seize the opportunities to reach the milestones in their career progression.

SIT is the first university in Singapore to offer undergraduate programmes in Allied Health (AH) in response to evolving trends, especially with an aging population and the growing demand for talent in the healthcare sector.
In 2016, SIT launched its inaugural programmes in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Radiation Therapy and Diagnostic Radiography under the Health & Social Sciences (HSS) Cluster. Apart from Diagnostic Radiography, which was a joint degree programme, the rest were OU degrees. Since then, HSS has grown its offering of AH courses to include Dietetics, and Speech and Language Therapy, evolving all to SIT-conferred degrees.
The foundation of the applied learning pedagogy at SIT is “learning by doing”, through which students gain industry knowledge and skills via practical and simulated means. In the case of AH students, they do not just embark on IWSP before graduating like students in other degree programmes. An AH student undergoes clinical placements over the course of his/her studies. Working with peers, clinicians and other healthcare stakeholders, students acquire soft skills on top of technical skills to prepare them to be industry-ready when they graduate.

A lifelong dream of working in healthcare led Jolene to study Diagnostic Radiography at SIT when it was a newly offered programme. She hit the ground running, learning beyond the classroom at clinical placements in different healthcare settings. Jolene’s student life also exemplified her hands-on approach to making a difference in her sphere of influence.
Addressing the demands and advancements in Singapore’s industry and economy, SIT has been offering new degree programmes since attaining our AU status. In AY2020, seven new programmes were offered, including Speech and Language Therapy to meet the need for healthcare professionals.
SIT has collaborated with SingHealth since 2016 when we started offering degree programmes in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Diagnostic Radiography and Radiation Therapy. Apart from Diagnostic Radiography, these programmes were offered jointly or in partnership with Overseas Universities. Over the years, we have converted the OU programmes to either joint or SIT-conferred degree programmes.
In our collaboration with SingHealth, we equip our students in the Health and Social Sciences Cluster with up-to-date knowledge and skills in the face of healthcare challenges in Singapore. This latest MOU with its emphasis on design thinking, automation and artificial intelligence, aims to:
